Well, maybe because it makes you feel kinda good, say experts.… [More]

Obama's odds of winning the re-election have collapsed since the first presidential debate, according to three separate measures:
First, Nate Silver of the New York Times now gives Obama only a 71% chance of reelection. That sounds high, but it's down from 86% a week ago. And Silver says the Romney surge may continue. He says that it's still too early to call the election a "toss-up," but he also ways that we may be getting there.

On Intrade, meanwhile, Obama's odds have dropped to 62% from nearly 80%.

And, on Betfair, Obama's odds have dropped from over 80% to the mid 60s:

That one debate could have had such a large impact seems to have shocked most political prognosticators. It will certainly be interesting to see what happens in the next two.

We mentioned months ago when it was first rumored that the iPhone 5 would replace the iPhone’s now-familiar 30-pin connector with a smaller, but still proprietary connector, that this could cause problems for people whose accessories were all of the old 30-pin type. I always loved Disney villain Ursula, the portly six-legged sea-witch who swaps the Litte Mermaid’s tail for a pair of legs in return for her lovely singing voice. And you’d think that dressing up as Ursula, or as the inevitable “sexy” Halloween version of Ursula, would be an option for women who are actually shaped like the character. Nope, not … [More]

Earlier we reported that a split was opening up in the US economy.
Consumers are feeling more and more optimistic, while businesses are feeling more pessimistic.
The latest survey from Fannie Mae (via Diana Olick) of how homeowners are thinking about the economy and the housing market is very telling, and confirming of the trend.
First, housing optimism is going up.

QE appears to be working. There's been a decline in expectation of higher mortgage rates.

There's been a clear improvement in economic expectations.

And people feel their own finances are growing.
