Nokia Exec: 'Youth Are Pretty Much Fed Up With iPhones' (NOK, MSFT)

nokia lumia 800 MAIN ANGLE

In an interview with Pocket Lint, Nokia's director of Portfolio, Product Marketing & Sales Niels Munksgaard had some biting words to say about iPhone and Android:

"...youth are pretty much fed up with iPhones. Everyone has the iPhone... Also, many are not happy with the complexity of Android and the lack of security.

So we do increasingly see that the youth that wants to be on the cutting edge and try something new are turning to the Windows phone platform."

A bold statement from a man whose company relies on Windows Phone, an operating system that, while impressive, has less than 5% global market share.

Will The Court Allow A Conversion Of A Chapter 7 Bankruptcy To A Chapter 13?

[WizardRSS: unable to retrieve full-text content]

To start with, Chapter 7 bankruptcy is different from Chapter 13 in the sense that the former permanently discharges a debtor's obligations to repay certain debts, whereas the latter only offers a fractional repayment plan. Although there are more benefits provided by Chapter 13 compare to Chapter 7, a debtor may or may not be able to legally convert from one type of bankruptcy to another.

Chesapeake Stock Drilling Its Way To $35

In the current scenario, it makes perfect sense for the company to focus on more profitable oil drilling, however, we see enough upside for natural gas price and a robust demand for the commodity going forward.

The UK's Deputy Prime Minister Vents His Frustration On Britain's Front Pages

daily mail 12/12

The rift over the EU veto between the UK's Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg and the Prime Minister David Cameron is all over the British front pages with the Independent, Guardian, Daily Mail and the Telegraph all choosing to put the story on their front pages.

The Times takes a different spin on the story, stating that there is a possibility of reconciliation between the two.

Elsewhere, the Daily Express has a story about the EU readying for backlash against the UK, while the Daily Mirror runs a headline exposing one of Britain's best-loved nature shows as a fake.

Is Meg Whitman Cleaning House? The Top HP Lawyer Is Leaving (HPQ)

Michael Holston

HP and its top lawyer, Michael Holston, have parted ways today the company said.

Holston was the executive vice president and general counsel.

It looks like this decision was sudden as HP does not have a replacement ready to go. The company has instead named someone from outside the company to act as interim general counsel.

David Healy will take on the role while HP conducts a search for a new top lawyer. Healy is partner and co-chair of the Mergers & Acquisition Group at Fenwick & West LLP and was the guy that represented HP on its recent acquisition of Vertica as well as its agreement to sell its video collaboration business unit to Polycom, HP said.

Can this be a sign that Meg Whitman is ready to clean house, change the corporate culture and be the savior HP employees are looking for?

Have you got a tip about HP executives leaving, or coming on board? We'd like to hear it! We are discreet. jbort@businessinsider.com

Latvia's Largest Bank Is Fighting Off A Bank Run After Rumors Of Collapse

riga

RIGA, Latvia (AP) — Latvia's largest bank is scrambling to contain a run among depositors gripped by fears of the bank's imminent collapse.

The panic among Swedish-owned Swedbank's depositors began Sunday after rumors spread that the financial institution was facing legal and liquidity problems in Estonia and Sweden.

Swedbank's Latvian chief Maris Mancinskis on Monday called the rumors "absurd." He said the bank is functioning normally and all depositors will have access to their funds via bank machines.

Mancinskis said some 10,000 Latvians withdrew over 10 million lats ($20 million) on Sunday.

Latvia's 10th largest bank, Latvijas Krajbanka, is currently being liquidated after regulators uncovered fraud on a massive scale. Depositors were left without access to their money for days.
