TAKE NOTE, ARRESTED: These Are The Worst TV-To-Movie Attempts Ever

sex and the city movie

"Arrested Development" may have gotten the trick of coming to the big screen just right by inking a deal to come back to the small screen first.

A fourth "season" of the underappreciated series will pave the way for an "Arrested" movie.

The trick might help the show avoid the traps of translation attempts.

Fans often come away from TV-movies disappointed by a feature film's inability to capture their favorite show's essence. The pace, nuances and humor of a half-hour show often peter out when pushed to the 90-minute mark.

(One entity going the other way, fyi? Syfy just announced it'll develop a series based on the Matt Damon movie "The Adjustment Bureau." But movies-turned-TV is a story for another day...)

"The Brady Bunch" should have quit while they were ahead. "A Very Brady Sequel," the second of two movies based on the popular sitcom, came out in 1996 and included a magic mushroom trip as well as a love story between Marcia and Greg.

1999's "Inspector Gadget" didn't captivate its audience the same way the T.V. series did. It garnered negative reviews and let down go-go fans.

The 2002 live action version of "Scooby Doo," earned critical boos. It wasn't all bad, though: the Freddie Prinze, Jr. starrer made more than $54 million.

The Shockingly Awful History Of The Detroit Lions

detroit lions bag

The Detroit Lions are really good this year.

At 4-0, they have a great chance of making the playoffs for the first time this millennium.

Since winning the old NFL Championship Game in 1957, they've been one of the worst franchises in sports.

How bad have they been?

You might be surprised.

They've won one playoff game since 1957

Detroit has only been to the playoffs nine times in the last 53 years.

They're 1-9 with their only win coming in 1991 against Dallas. The Lions were promptly killed 41-10 by Washington in the conference championship game the next week.

They've drafted in the top 5 nine times since 1980

It's not just that the Lions have been bad. It's that they've been DREADFUL.

In nearly one third of the last 30 seasons, they've been among the worst of the worst in pro football.

They've only had double-digit wins five times since 1957

To put that in prospective, the Patriots have had at least 10 wins eight seasons in a row.

China Is Telling Anyone Who Will Listen That It Will Boost Imports

china street shopping

China's Vice Commerce Minister said something that American politicians would probably like to hear this weekend at a trade forum in Shanghai, Xinhua reports.

"The time has come for the government to attach equal importance to imports and exports," said Zhong Shan, vice minister of commerce. "But import policies are far from perfect, and the country's import structure also needs optimized."

American politicians are planning to pass legislation that would punish China for currency manipulation and trade policies that harm the U.S. economy. Chinese officials, of course, are crying foul, and as Zhong's statements demonstrate, their response is not to talk tough, but to talk cooperation.

That's pretty much the message in Chinese media as well. Check out this snippet from a piece about the American legislation in China Daily:

US exports would rise even more rapidly if Washington ends restrictions on exports of various types to China. That's while China has been pushing aggressive pro-consumption policy stimulus measures to absorb surplus savings. That effort could give the United States enormous opportunities to boost exports to China and create jobs.

At a time when the world economy might enter a new danger zone, all countries should act to stimulate business through free trade initiatives. The move to push the currency bill through the US Senate is obviously on the wrong track as it will offer little help in creating jobs or trade expansion. Instead, it could deteriorate the economic problems the country is facing now.

That sounds good. But it isn't clear whether or not the Chinese consumer, who also faces a global slowdown, is translating these pro-consumption policies into increased purchasing power. If not, then Zhong is just fighting politics with politics. And that's definitely not enough to stop Washington legislators from passing their bill this week.
